(28/100) AVOcados!

⁣Almost 100,000 avocados a year - avocados are everywhere across our Aussie Brunch menu and sourcing the creamiest is a full time job, chasing the seasons and varieties across the world. All avocados are not equal. I learnt this early in life as my great school friend @barhamavocados is actually a premium avocado farmer and absolutely obsessed with producing the best avocados in Australia. ⁣ ⁣

Did you know... ⁣Avocados are a tropical fruit that originate from Mexico and there are over 500 varieties! It takes about 4 years for a tree to start producing fruit (similar to wine grapes).⁣

@barhamavocados are trialling growing avocados in a retractable roof green house for the first time in the world. The aim is to reduce water needs, and combat climate change. ⁣

⁣Our favourite avos are the Hass because they go dark when ripe and the Reed because they are big and creamy! ⁣

Avocados don’t ripen until they are picked! And another great tip is if you have half an avo left, just run it under cold water and pop it in the fridge. No need for plastic wrap. The water seal stops it oxidising !

⁣Avocados are great in smoothies for summer with Greek or coconut yogurt, agave, milk (or alternative milk) and a squeeze of citrus!
