BEING NATURE, IN BLOOM

Spring arrives in Holland Park. The light shifts, the air softens, and the café begins to feel a little different again. Being Nature moves with it.

Now into its second year, our programme continues to unfold as a series of seasonal chapters, each one shaped by the pace and character of the park around it. Curated by Justin Hibbs and Alan McFetridge, the spring exhibition leans into this moment of renewal — a time when everything feels in transition, not quite settled, but full of energy.

The works on display reflect that sense of movement. Materials feel lighter, more responsive. There’s a focus on texture, on process, on the small details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

What makes Being Nature distinctive is how naturally it sits within the space. There’s no clear beginning or end to the exhibition — it reveals itself gradually. You might notice something new on your third visit, or catch a detail you missed the first time. It becomes part of the rhythm of the café, just as much as the coffee or the conversations around you.

Alan McFetridge’s residency continues to anchor the programme, with work that responds directly to the setting — shaped by time spent in the park, observing its patterns, its pace, and the people who move through it. There’s a consistency to it, an ongoing dialogue between artist and environment that builds over the course of the year.

Alongside the exhibition, the Sensing Earth workshop series returns this month, with Anna May, offering a more hands-on way into the ideas behind the work. These sessions aren’t about explanation so much as experience — a chance to pay attention, and engage with the park in a different way. We hope you enjoy!
